Rubin Tairovsky

The red grape variety (also Rubin Tairovskii) is an interspecific new variety between Odessky Ustoichivy (Băbească Neagră x Rupestris) x Varousset. It contains genes from Vitis berlandieri, Vitis lincecumii, Vitis rupestris and Vitis vinifera. The hybrid was crossed in 1964 in the Ukraine by grower Y. N. Dokuchaeva. Variety protection was granted in 1990. The late-maturing, frost-hardy vine produces red wines with soft tannins and flavours of elderberries. Five hectares of vineyards were recorded in Moldova in 2016 (Kym Anderson).
