Nikolowein

Term used in Germany and Austria (also Nikolauswein) for a wine whose grapes were harvested on 6 December, the eponymous St. Nicholas' Day. Naturally, this is mostly an ice wine or a Trockenbeerenauslese. In Austria, Nikolowein or Nikololese is an official designation under wine law. It may be used here if the harvest date is noted on the label. Sensuously similar wines are Christwein, Dreikönigswein, Leopoldiwein, Martiniwein, Stefaniwein and Weihnachtswein.
