Christmas wine

Term used in Germany and Austria for a wine whose grapes were harvested on one of the two Christmas days, 24 December (Christmas Eve) or 25 December (Christmas Day). Naturally, this is mostly an ice wine or a Trockenbeerenauslese. In Austria, Christmas wine or Weihnachtslese is a term defined by wine law. It may be used here if the harvest date is noted on the label. Similar wines are Christwein, Dreikönigswein, Leopoldiwein, Martiniwein, Nikolowein and Stefaniwein. See also under special wines.
