Leopoldi wine

Common name in Austria (also Leopoldilese) for a wine harvested on "Leopolditag" (15th November). This wine may be designated as such by wine law if the label contains information about the harvest date. In most cases, the wine is a Beerenauslese or Trockenbeerenauslese. The custom goes back to the Babenberg Margrave Leopold III the Saint (1073-1136), the patron saint of Austria, as well as the provinces of Lower Austria, Upper Austria and Vienna. The day is celebrated with many events according to old customs, e.g. the Leopoldi wine tasting of young barrel wines or the barrel slide. Sensuously similar wines are Christwein, Dreikönigswein, Martiniwein, Nikolowein, Stefaniwein and Weihnachtswein. See also under special wines.

There is a vast number of sources on the web where one can acquire knowledge about wine. But none has the scope, timeliness and accuracy of the information in the encyclopaedia at wein.plus. I use it regularly and rely on it.
