The red grape variety (Kuhlmann 296-1) is an interspecific new variety between M.G. 101-14 S.P. (Riparia x Rupestris) x Knipperlé. It contains genes from Vitis riparia, Vitis rupestris and Vitis vinifera. The hybrid was crossed at the beginning of the 20th century at the Oberlin Institute in Colmar-Alsace by the French breeder Eugène Kuhlmann (1858-1932). Incidentally, the same parents also produced the new variety Triomphe d'Alsace. The vine, which is resistant to fungal diseases, is used as table grape. No stock was reported in 2016 (Kym Anderson).
In the past, you needed a wealth of encyclopaedias and specialist literature to keep up to date in your vinophile professional life. Today, Wine lexicon from wein.plus is one of my best helpers and can rightly be called the "bible of wine knowledge".
