Negrara Veronese

The red grape variety originates from Italy. Synonyms are Brachetto Ligure, Negrara, Negronza, Terodola and Tirodola.

Origin

The first documentary mention was made in 1824 by the biologist Ciro Pollini (1782-1833). The ancestry (parentage) is unknown. It should not be confused with the Negrara Trentina, Raboso Veronese or Teroldego varieties due to some of the same synonyms or morphological similarities.

Characteristics

The medium to late ripening vine is resistant to winter frost and drought, but susceptible to botrytis, both types of mildew and esca. It produces fruity red wines with mild tannins and moderate acidity as well as flavours of red berries and cherries and slightly spicy notes.
