The white grape variety comes from Spain. Synonyms are Alicante de Malaga, Alicante Encarnado, Alicante Rosa, Alicante Vermelho, Malvasía Portalegre, Malvoisie Espagnole and Uva Rosada. According to DNA analyses carried out in 2015, it comes from a presumably natural cross between Hebén x unknown partner. However, this is based on only 20 DNA markers (see molecular genetics). The rosy-berry vine is used as a wine press and table grape. It is cultivated in small quantities in the region of Galicia. In 2010, only one hectare of vineyard area was designated (Kym Anderson statistics).
