The red grape variety is a new breed between Schiras Dr. Houdbine x Chasselas. Synonyms are Black Chasselas, Black Muscadine, Black Sweet Water, Chasselas Noir, Fekete Chasselas, Mornen Noir, Black Muscat Gutedel and Tokos. It must not be confused with the variety Mornen Noir, despite the fact that the synonyms seem to indicate this. The cross was made in France in 1857 at the Moreau-Robert vine breeding institute. The Blanc d'Ambre variety was created with the same parents. This variety is suitable for wine presses and table grapes. In 2010, no stock was recorded (statistics Kym Anderson).
