The red grape variety is a new variety between Schiras Dr. Houbdine x Chasselas. Synonyms are Black Chasselas, Black Muscadine, Black Sweet Water, Chasselas Noir, Fekete Chasselas, Mornen Noir, Black Muscat Chasselas and Tokos. It should not be confused with the Mornen Noir variety, despite seemingly suggestive synonyms. The crossing took place in 1857 in France at the Moreau-Robert vine breeding institute. The same parents also produced the Blanc d'Ambre variety. The variety is suitable for wine press and table grape. In 2016, no stock was reported (Kym Anderson).
I have great respect for the scope and quality of the wein.plus encyclopaedia. It is a unique place to go for crisp, sound information on terms from the world of wine.
