The red grape variety originates from Italy. Synonyms are Gropel, Gropella Nera, Gropel Moliner, Gropello Aunaune, Groppello di Santo Stefano, Groppello di S Stefano, Groppello Mocasina, Groppello Moliner, Groppello San Stefano, Groppelo Val di Non, Grupela Nera and Mocasina. Groppello (Gropel, Gropello) is the name given to several varieties in northern Italy. The name is derived from "Gropo" (knot), which refers to the shape of the grapes.

Parentage

The parentage (parentage) is unknown. It should not be confused with other Groppello varieties, Lambrusco Viadanese or Pignola Valtellinese due to some of the same synonyms or morphological similarities.
