Frequent component of grape variety names or synonyms (also Grapello, Gropello, Groppella) in Italy (three "Grappello varieties" are also listed due to the similarity of names). The name is derived from "Gropo", which according to a local dialect means "knot" after the shape of the grape. Some, but not all, are related to each other:

The glossary is a monumental achievement and one of the most important contributions to wine knowledge. Of all the encyclopaedias I use on the subject of wine, it is by far the most important. That was the case ten years ago and it hasn't changed since.
