The red grape variety is an interspecific new variety between Cabernet Sauvignon x Cynthiana(Norton). The part of the name "Crimson" (dark red, blood red, purple, carmine) refers to the colour of the wine. It contains genes of Vitis aestivalis x Vitis vinifera. The hybrid was crossed in the USA in 2001 by Lucian W. Dressel. In 2010, one hectare of vineyard area was recorded in Kentucky (Kym Anderson).
