The red grape variety is an interspecific new variety between MG 101-14 O.P. (Millardet et Grasset 101 O.P.) x Knipperlé. Synonyms are Kuhlmann 277-2, Noir Précoce de Colmar and Précoce de Colmar. Genes of Vitis riparia and Vitis vinifera are included. The hybrid was crossed in Colmar-Alsace in France by the private breeder Eugène Kuhlmann (1858-1932). The variety is grown in small quantities in the province of Nova Scotia in Canada. In 2016, 0.3 hectares of vines were reported (Kym Anderson statistics).
