The southernmost wine-growing region and province in Argentina. The vineyards are located in the El Hoyo Valley and cover around 100 hectares of vines. Viticulture was only established here in 1990, when Bodegas Weinert (parent estate in the Mendoza region) planted the first vineyards with Chardonnay, Gewürztraminer, Merlot, Pinot Noir and Riesling. The climate is cool and Patagonian, and the rainfall is much higher than in the other Argentinian wine-growing regions.
Serious sources on the internet are rare - and Wine lexicon from wein.plus is one such source. When researching for my articles, I regularly consult the wein.plus encyclopaedia. There I get reliable and detailed information.
