The winery is located in the municipality of Kefraya, 20 kilometres south of the town of Chtaura in the Bekaa Valley in Lebanon. It was founded in the 1950s by Michel de Bustros, who came from a family of bankers and diplomats. He planted terraced vines imported from France on 300 hectares of uncultivated land on the Barouk slopes at 900 to 1,100 metres above sea level on clayey, chalky and stony soils. The varieties cultivated are Cabernet Sauvignon, Bourboulenc, Carignan Noir (Mazuelo), Chardonnay, Cinsaut, Clairette, Roussanne, Sauvignon Blanc, Ugni Blanc (Trebbiano) and Viognier. The first harvest could only take place 20 years later and the grapes were initially sold to smaller wineries. A winery was built in 1978 in the middle of the civil war. The first vintage was 1979.
