The winery is located in the municipality of Sauternes in the area of the same name in Graves(Bordeaux). It should not be confused with the Château d'Arche vineyard of the same name in the Haut-Médoc. The estate was acquired in 1733 by the eponymous Comte d'Arche. In the 1855 Bordeaux Classification, it was classified in the second rank (Deuxième Grand Cru Classé). In 1981, the estate was leased by INAO president Pierre Perromat. The vineyards cover 40 hectares, of which 30 hectares are planted with the white wine varieties Sémillon (90%), Sauvignon Blanc (9%) and Muscadelle (1%), and 10 hectares with red wine varieties. The long-lasting, noble sweet white wine matures in one third new barriques. A version named after a former owner is called "Château d'Arche Lafaurie". The second wine from the 2005 vintage onwards is called "Prieuré d'Arche" (previously "Cru de Braneyre"). The white wine "A d'Arche Bordeaux Blanc" and the red wine "A d'Arche Graves Rouge" (Merlot) matured in barriques are vinified dry.
I have great respect for the scope and quality of the wein.plus encyclopaedia. It is a unique place to go for crisp, sound information on terms from the world of wine.
