Second growth (also known as Deuxième Cru Classé) in the 1855 Bordeaux classification for red wines from the Médoc. The same classification also covered white wines from Sauternes and Barsac; there, this corresponds to the third tier of the classification, following the Premier Cru Classé Supérieur tier—reserved exclusively for Château d’Yquem —and the estates classified as Premier Grand Cru Classé.
