The winery is located in the municipality of Purbach in the Leithaberg wine-growing region of Burgenland (Austria). The family has been growing grapes for over 400 years. Today it is run by Birgit Braunstein. The restaurant "Pauli's Stuben" and the hotel "Landgut Braunstein" were founded in 1979 by the parents Paul and Maria Braunstein. The vineyards cover 22 hectares in the Edelgraben, Fellner, Glauberinzer, Goldberg, Heide and Rosenberg vineyards. They are 70% planted with the red wine varieties Blaufränkisch, Zweigelt, St. Laurent, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, and 30% with the white wine varieties Sauvignon Blanc, Grüner Veltliner, Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc and Welschriesling. The vineyards are cultivated in an environmentally friendly way. The grape zone is located at a height of 60 cm, which allows the grapes to benefit from the reflected heat of the soil. Likewise, a better sugar ripeness is achieved by the 130 cm high leaf wall. Further quality criteria are targeted soil and vine cultivation, defoliation, consistent grape reduction and healthy and physiologically ripe grape material obtained by selective hand harvesting.
