In the past, a common (but by no means negative) term in German for the process or result of blending several wines from different grape varieties, vintages or locations. In recent years, however, the international term cuvée has also become established in Austria and Germany.
However, wines are also blended for other reasons, for example to harmonise the acidity or to achieve a certain alcohol content in a wine. The blending cross (blending calculation) is used for the exact realisation of blends with the desired result.
