General term (in Austria often Riede) for a geographically defined larger area of cultivated land, which in most cases is shared by several owners (wineries). In Germany, this is understood to mean single vineyard or Katasterlage, which are wine-law terms for the origin there. In contrast, Großlage is usually understood to be a large area consisting of several sites (single sites) or vineyards. An origin-oriented site (single vineyard) is comparable to an appellation in France. A list of vineyard-relevant keywords can be found under Vineyard.
