The winery is located in the municipality of Klingenberg (Mainviereck area) in the German wine-growing region of Franconia. The traditional winery was founded in 1912. Benedikt Baltes is responsible for the winery and cellar. The vineyards cover 13 hectares of mostly red sandstone terraced steep slopes in the Schlossberg (Klingenberg) and Bischofsberg (Großheubach) vineyards. They are planted with Pinot Noir, Blauer Portugieser and other red wine varieties, as well as the white wine varieties Müller-Thurgau and Riesling. The ultimate goal is to produce wines with varietal and site character. The grapes, which are 100% hand-picked, are consistently vinified in the traditional way. Quality criteria are low yields, long maceration times, long barrel ripening in large wooden barrels made of local oak, avoidance of additives such as pure cultured yeasts and the unfiltered bottling of the wines. The label is decorated with famous historical copperplate engravings from the 17th century, which were created in Klingenberg as the former seat of the electoral winery. The winery has been a member of the VDP (Association of German Prädikat Wine Estates) since 1975.
