Soleil Blanc

The white grape variety (also Seibel 10868) is an interspecific new breeding between Seibel 5163 (Seibel 2510 x Gaillard 2) x Seibel 5593 (Seibel 880 x Seibel 4202). It contains genes from Vitis aestivalis, Vitis cinerea, Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rupestris and Vitis vinifera. The hybrid was crossed by the breeder Albert Seibel (1844-1936). With the same parents, the new variety Chelois was created. The medium-ripening vine is sensitive to frost and moderately susceptible to both types of mildew and botrytis. It produces neutral white wines that are somewhat prone to oxidation. The variety is cultivated in the US state of Michigan as well as in Switzerland. However, no stocks were reported in 2016 (Kym Anderson).
