The VCIG area(quality wine) for red wines and white wines is located in the province of Salamanca in the north-western Spanish region of Castilla y León. It was classified in 2010. The vineyards cover 72 hectares of vines in 26 municipalities. They are located at an altitude of 400 to 1,000 metres above sea level, part of which is in the "Las Batuecas-Sierra de Francia" Natural Park. The Francia River flows through the area. The red wine varieties Rufete, Tempranillo and Garnacha Tinta, as well as the white wine varieties Viura (Macabeo), Palomino and Moscatel a Grano Menudo (Muscat Blanc) are permitted.
The glossary is a monumental achievement and one of the most important contributions to wine knowledge. Of all the encyclopaedias I use on the subject of wine, it is by far the most important. That was the case ten years ago and it hasn't changed since.
