Sauerstingl

The winery is located in the municipality of Fels am Wagram in the Lower Austrian wine growing region of Wagram. The traditional family has been growing wine since 1794. Today the business is run by Franz Sauerstingl junior, who has been responsible for the cellar since the 2002 vintage. The vineyards cover 12 hectares of vines, including the two sites Brunnthal and Scheiben on mineral-rich, sandy-clayey soils, which allow the vines to take deep roots. They are planted to about 90% with the white wine varieties Grüner Veltliner, Riesling,Pinot Blanc and Roter Veltliner, as well as the red wine varieties Zweigelt,Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon.

Depending on the type of wine, the wines are aged in steel tanks, large wooden barrels or barriques. The predominant loess soils are particularly suitable for the Grüner Veltliner, the speciality of the house. Depending on the geological conditions or ascending according to complexity and maturity, this variety is vinified in the four variants LÖSS I (light and fruity), LÖSS II, LÖSS III Scheiben and LÖSS IV Brunnthal (full-bodied and expressive, from old vines with long storage on the fine yeast). The red wine cuvée "Dark Red Löss" (from the three red wine varieties) is aged for 24 months in barrique. The Rosé-Frizzante "Bubbles" (Cabernet Sauvignon) is also produced. The winery is a member of the Wagramer Selektion association.
