The winery is located in the municipality of Ratsch in the wine-growing region of South Styria (Austria). The traditional winery has been family-owned since 1924. After the wines were vinified by the Polz Erich & Walter winery from 1993 to 2007, the responsibility has been in the hands of Hartmut Aubell since the beginning of 2008. The vineyards cover over 12 hectares of vineyards in the Nussberg (Ratsch) and Herrenberg (Witschein) vineyards. They are 95% planted with the white wine varieties Welschriesling, Pinot Blanc, Sauvignon Bl anc and Morillon, the rest with the red wine variety Zweigelt. The product range is divided into the Junker, Klassiker and Lagenweine lines. Around 40,000 bottles of wine are produced annually. Fine brandies and vinegars (apple, quince, wine) are also produced.
In the past, you needed a wealth of encyclopaedias and specialist literature to keep up to date in your vinophile professional life. Today, Wine lexicon from wein.plus is one of my best helpers and can rightly be called the "bible of wine knowledge".
