Term (also taut, full of tension) for a trigeminal sensation filling the entire oral cavity for the overall impression of a wine in the context of a wine address or wine evaluation. This is not a classical taste or smell impression, but a tactile, mechanically perceived mouth sensation perceived by the mucous membranes. It is triggered by a full-bodied(high in alcohol and extract), acidic wine and is also often accompanied by a refreshing, tangy sensation. Related or complementary terms that reinforce the punchy impression are dense, powerful and mighty, as well as "the wine has a draught".
For my many years of work as an editor with a wine and culinary focus, I always like to inform myself about special questions at Wine lexicon. Spontaneous reading and following links often leads to exciting discoveries in the wide world of wine.
