Probus

The red grape variety (also Sremski Karlovci 111-10) is a new variety between Kadarka x Cabernet Sauvignon. It was named in honor of the Roman emperor Probus (232-282), who founded viticulture in the area of Vojvodina along the Danube. The cross was made in Serbia by the breeder D. Milisavljevic. The protection of the variety was granted in 1983. The late ripening vine is cultivated in the area of Fruska Gora. It is also used as a rootstock. However, no stocks were reported in 2016 (Kym Anderson statistics).
