The red grape variety is an interspecific new breeding between Saperavi x ((Garandmak x Richter 31) x Kakhet). It contains genes from Vitis berlandieri, Vitis rupestris and Vitis vinifera. The hybrid was crossed in Armenia by the two breeders S. A. Pogosyan and S. S. Khachatryan. The variety is cultivated in the Armenian province of Ararat and is mostly blended with Saperavi and other indigenous varieties in mostly sweet red wines. However, no stocks were reported in 2016 (Kym Anderson statistics).
