The white grape variety originates from Greece (see under Muscat). There are about 100 synonyms that indicate great age and wide distribution. Some of them are Brown Muscat, Červená Dinka, Grey Muscat, Grey Red Muscat, Brown Muscat, Busuioacă, Busuioacă de Bohotin, Busuioacă Roză, Busuioacă Vânată, Grizzly Frontignan, Caraway Grape, Moscadello Rosso, Moscatel de Grano Menudo Rojo, Moscatel Galego, Moscatel Menudo Morado, Muscat à Petits Grains Rouges, Muscat Frontignan Rouge, Muscat Gris, Muscat Pink, Muscat Rouge de Frontignac, Muscat Rozovy, Muscat Kalybra, Red Constantia, Tasty, Uva Turca Rubra and Purple Muscat. It is a somatic mutation with reddish berries of the white Muscat Blanc. It must not be confused with the varieties Busuioacă de Bohotin, Muscat Rouge de Madère or Muscat Noir due to seemingly indicative synonyms or morphological similarities. In 2016, quantities were reported for Muscat Blanc, Muscat Gris and Muscat Rouge (Kym Anderson).
For me, Lexicon from wein.plus is the most comprehensive and best source of information about wine currently available.
