Producer description of "Weingut Franz Anton Mayer"

The winery is located in the municipality of Königsbrunn in the Lower Austrian wine-growing region of Wagram. The traditional family business was founded in 1896. During the lifetime of Franz Anton Mayer, who died prematurely in 2013, a new, modern winery was put into operation in 2008. The responsibility was taken over by a new team after his death. Peter Dolle (Weingut im Kamptal) is the cellar master and since 2018 the restaurateur Andreas Wieland is the managing director. The vineyards cover ten hectares of vines on loess sites up to 15 metres deep in the Bromberg, Hochrain and Rainmacher vineyards. They are planted with the white wine varieties Grüner Veltliner, Roter Veltliner and Gelber Muskateller, as well as the red wine variety Zweigelt. Environmentally friendly cultivation is practised. Appropriate measures are taken to reduce yields in order to increase quality. Depending on the type of wine, the wines are matured in stainless steel tanks, in traditional large wooden bar rels or in barriques in a way that is as typical as possible for the variety and the site. Premium wines are Grüner Veltliner Hochrain and Roter Veltliner. In addition, there are seasonal bottlings such as Grüner Alpiner and Sommerveltliner as well as the rosé pearl wine "Franzecco". The winery is a member of Weingüter Wagram.
