IGP area in the French wine-growing region of Provence, which largely covers the southern half of the Côtes de Provence AOC area. The vineyards cover 1,300 hectares of vineyards on mainly limestone and slate soils in 42 municipalities in the Var department. 95% of the vineyards produce rosé wines and red wines in equal parts and only 5% white wines. The most important red wine varieties are Grenache Noir(Garnacha Tinta), Cinsaut, Syrah, Carignan Noir(Mazuelo), Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir and Merlot. The most important white wine varieties are Rolle(Vermentino), Ugni Blanc(Trebbiano Toscano), Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.
The glossary is a monumental achievement and one of the most important contributions to wine knowledge. Of all the encyclopaedias I use on the subject of wine, it is by far the most important. That was the case ten years ago and it hasn't changed since.
