The white grape variety (also called Mariquinhas) is a new variety between Fernão Pires x Pirovano 75 (Sultana Muscata = Muscat d'Alexandrie x Sultana). The cross was made in Portugal by the breeder José Leão Ferreira de Almeida. It is cultivated in the region of Extremadura and is approved there for the DOC wine spirit Lourinhã. In 2010 a vineyard of 11 hectares was designated (Kym Anderson).
