The white grape variety (also Mariquinhas) is a new cross between Fernão Pires x Pirovano 75 (Sultana Muscata = Muscat d'Alexandrie x Sultana). The cross was made in Portugal by the breeder José Leão Ferreira de Almeida. It is grown in the Lisboa region and is approved there for the DOC wine spirit Lourinhã. In 2016, five hectares of vines were reported with a decreasing trend (Kym Anderson statistics).
