Malaga Blanc

The white grape variety (also Malaga Blanca) originates from France. The ancestry (parentage) is unknown, but it could be identical to the Spanish variety Teneron. Whether there is a relationship to the Armenian variety Dabouki (with synonym Malaga Blanc) is not known. It was probably given to King Narai the Great (+1688) of Siam in 1685 as a gift from the Sun King Louis XIV (1638-1715) by French envoys. In Thailand it is used as table grape, but also for white wines. Due to its thick skin, it is insensitive to the humid climate prevailing there. In 2016, 54 hectares of vines were planted here (Kym Anderson statistics).
