The red grape variety is an interspecific new variety between Post Oak x Norton. It contains genes from Vitis aestivalis, Vitis lincecumii and Vitis vinifera. The hybrid was crossed in the USA in 1905 by the botanist Thomas Volney Munson (1843-1913). The vine is resistant to the vine disease Pierce Disease. No stocks were reported in 2010 (Kym Anderson).
