The red grape variety is an interspecific new breeding between Post Oak x Norton. It contains genes from Vitis aestivalis, Vitis lincecumii and Vitis vinifera. The hybrid was crossed in 1905 in the USA by the botanist Thomas Volney Munson (1843-1913). The vine is resistant to the grapevine disease Pierce Disease. No stocks were reported in 2016 (Kym Anderson statistics).
