Grgić Vina

The winery is located near the municipality of Trstenik on the Pelješac peninsula in Dalmatia(Croatia), directly on the Adriatic coast. It was founded in 1996 by the famous oenologist Miljenko "Mike" Grgich (1923-2023), who is considered an important pioneer of US viticulture. He was also known as "the grand old man in the beret" because of his favourite headgear. His family owned a small winery in Desne Dalmatia. Grgich studied oenology at the University of Zagreb and emigrated to California in 1958. He made a name for himself as cellar master at the renowned wineries Beaulieu Vineyard, Mondavi and Chateau Montelena. In 1977, the Grgich Hills winery was founded in Napa Valley, California, in partnership with the Hills family (see there).
