The red grape variety is a new cross between Merlot x Raboso Veronese. Synonyms or breeding numbers are Cosmo 108, Incrocio Cosmo and Merlot x Raboso 108. The cross was made in Italy in 1976 by grower Italo Cosmo at the Veneto School of Viticulture and Research in Conegliano.

The medium to late ripening, constant-yielding vine is moderately resistant to powdery mildew, downy mildew and rot. It produces moderately tannic red wines with a ruby red colour, which are used for blending.

There is a vast number of sources on the web where one can acquire knowledge about wine. But none has the scope, timeliness and accuracy of the information in the encyclopaedia at wein.plus. I use it regularly and rely on it.
