Cordenossa

The red grape variety (also called Cordenos) originates from the border region Italy (Gorizia)-Slovenia (Goricia). In 1923 it is listed in the "Ampelografia del Friuli" published by the ampelographer Norberto Marzotto (1853-1939) as a vine with a long tradition. In the 1980s it was found by the winemaker Emilio Bulfon in the municipality of Pinzano al Tagliamento (Province of Pordenone, Friuli Venezia Giulia Region) together with other varieties and was revived with the help of the ampelographers Antonio Calò and Ruggero Forti. The medium to late-maturing, high-yielding vine is resistant to powdery mildew, but susceptible to downy mildew. It produces red wines with cassis and tobacco aromas. It is grown in the municipalities of Castelnovo di Friuli and Pinzano al Tagliamento. In 2016, 2 hectares of vineyard area were registered (Kym Anderson).
