Producer description of "Château Trotte Vieille"

The winery is located in in the area of the same name (Bordeaux). It is one of the oldest estates in this area, the first mention of a wine production dates back to 1453. The original name is said to derive from an old lady who at that time is said to have taken regular walks nearby to find out the latest news (La Trotte Vieille = walk old woman). The property was purchased in 1949 by Marcel Borie (1892-1958), the then head of (see there in detail the family history).

In 2102, the 3.5 hectares of vineyards of , also owned by Borie-Manoux, were incorporated. The extended estate was confirmed as "Premier Grand Cru Classé B" in 2012. The vineyards now cover a total of 13.5 hectares and are planted with Merlot (55%), Cabernet Franc (40%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (5%). Some vines are over 100 years old, some vines are even 150 years old. The long-lasting red wine matures between 12 and 18 months in up to 100% new barriques. The second wine is called "La Vieille Dame de Trotte Vieille".
