Carrasquín

The red grape variety originates from Spain. Synonyms are Carrasco and Carrasco Negro. It should not be confused with the Carrasco Negro variety, despite seemingly suggestive synonyms or morphological similarities. According to DNA analyses carried out in 2013, it is a presumably natural cross between Savagnin Blanc (Traminer) x unknown variety. However, this is based on only 20 DNA markers (see Molecular genetics). Furthermore, there is a close genetic relationship to the variety Alfrocheiro. The late-ripening vine produces light red, low-acid and neutral-tasting red wines, which are mostly used in blends for rosé wines. It is grown in small quantities in the northwestern region of Asturias. However, no stock was reported in 2016 (Kym Anderson statistics).
