The white grape variety originates from Portugal. Synonyms are Arinto de Trás-os-Montes and Arinto do Douro. According to DNA analyses carried out in 2013, it originates from a presumably natural cross between an unknown parent variety x Savagnin (Traminer). However, this is based on only 20 DNA markers (see Molecular genetics). No stocks were reported in 2106 (Kym Anderson statistics).
