Amselfelder

Well-known brand wine from Kosovo, developed and marketed by the German company Racke. The medium sweet red wine cuvée was or is blended from the Gamay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Vranac and Prokupac varieties. However, white and rosé wines are now also produced under this name.

The name commemorates the memorable, historic battle between the Serbs and the Turks on the Field of Blackbirds in June 1389. The Serbs and their allies under Prince Lazar Hrebeljanović (1329-1389) were defeated by the Turkish army under their commander Sultan Murad I (1319 or 1326-1389). Neither of the leaders of these peoples survived this battle. The Turkish Murad was killed by a Serbian soldier who had infiltrated the Ottoman camp. The Serbian Lazar was captured and executed. However, the area where Blackbird Field is grown is in the western part of Kosovo, in the Metohija region, and not in the eastern part formed by the Blackbird Field.
