The red grape variety originates from Greece. Synonyms are Xeromachairouda Aspri, Xeromacherouda Aspri, Xylomachairouda and Xylomacherouda. It should not be confused with the Syriki variety (with synonym Xeromacherouda). The parentage is unknown. The vine is cultivated in the Cyclades and used there as wine grape and table grape. However, no stocks were reported in 2016 (Kym Anderson statistics).

The glossary is a monumental achievement and one of the most important contributions to wine knowledge. Of all the encyclopaedias I use on the subject of wine, it is by far the most important. That was the case ten years ago and it hasn't changed since.
