The red grape variety originates from Greece. Synonyms are Xeromachairouda Aspri, Xeromacherouda Aspri, Xylomachairouda and Xylomacherouda. It should not be confused with the Asswad Karech variety (with the synonym Xeromacherouda). The parentage is unknown. The vine is cultivated in the Cyclades and used there as a wine grape and table grape No stocks were reported in 2016 (Kym Anderson).
