The white grape variety is a new cross between Muscat d'Hamburg x João de Santarém (Castelão Francês). DNA analyses carried out in 2020 revealed reverse parentage, contrary to what is stated in the breeding list. The cross was made in Portugal by José Leão Ferreira da Almeida. The variety is cultivated in small quantities in the Centro and Norte regions and on the island of Madeira. In 2016, two hectares of vineyard were designated (Kym Anderson statistics).
I have great respect for the scope and quality of the wein.plus encyclopaedia. It is a unique place to go for crisp, sound information on terms from the world of wine.
