Sommerberg

One of the sites classified as Grand Cru in the French region of Alsace (in the Haut-Rhin part) within the Alsace Grand Cru appellation. It was already mentioned in 1214. A strict demarcation was already introduced in the 17th century. The steep vineyards, all facing south and with slopes of up to 45°, cover around 29 hectares of vines on coarse sandy, weathered granite soil in the two municipalities of Niedermorschwier and Katzenthal. The main varieties cultivated here are Riesling, as well as Pinot Gris, Muscat Blanc and Gewürztraminer. Well-known producers are François Bohn, Albert Boxler, Justin Boxler, Domaine Aimé Stentz and Cave de Turckheim.
