The white grape variety originates from Italy. Synonyms are Greco Muscio the second main name), Grecomusc, Rovello and Rovello Bianco. The parentage is unknown. However, according to DNA analyses carried out in 2009, there is no relationship to any of the many Greco varieties. It was first described in Campania in 1875. The late-maturing vine is generally resistant to various fungal diseases, especially botrytis. It yields fresh, acidic and aromatic white wines with a lemon flavour. The almost extinct variety was reactivated in 2003 with the support of the universities of Napoli and Palermo in Taurasi in the Campanian province of Avellino. In 2016, 0.7 hectares of vineyards were designated (Kym Anderson statistics).
In the past, you needed a wealth of encyclopaedias and specialist literature to keep up to date in your vinophile professional life. Today, Wine lexicon from wein.plus is one of my best helpers and can rightly be called the "bible of wine knowledge".
