The chef and sommelier Gerhard Retter (*1973) grew up in Hofkirchen near Hartberg in Styria(Austria), where his parents ran an inn. He was educated at the Provincial Vocational School for Tourism in Bad Gleichenberg, where he learned the profession of a cook and later waiter and came into contact with the professional field of wine. His first station was the restaurant "Aubergine" of the chef, restaurateur and cookbook author Eckart Witzigmann. Later stations were renowned addresses such as the restaurant "Girardet" in Lausanne (Switzerland), "Gordon Ramsay" in London (England) and "Hotel Relais & Chateaux Hanner" in Mayerling (Lower Austria), as well as Maître at the hotel "Adlon" in Berlin (Germany). Today Retter runs the Michelin-starred restaurant "Cordo" (formerly Cordobar) in Berlin. The "Fischerklause" at Lütjensee (Schleswig-Holstein), which he ran for 11 years, is now run by his ex-wife.
