The winery is located above the small community of the same name near Castiglione di Sicilia (metropolitan city of Catania) in the Italian region of Sicily. It was founded in 2000 by Andrea Franchetti through the purchase of an old farmhouse. The company, which operates under the name "Vini Franchetti", also runs the Tenuta di Trinoro in Tuscany. Andrea Franchetti is considered a leading pioneer in the reactivation of winegrowing on Etna. Carmelio Cutrufello is responsible for the operation in Sicily.
The terraced vineyards cover 25 hectares of vineyards on the northern slopes of Mount Etna at 1,000 metres above sea level on dry, volcanic soils with a high water retention capacity. The individual sites have different soil characteristics and their own microclimates. Due to the special conditions, vines resistant to ph ylloxera, some of which are 130 years old, can also thrive here. ungrafted With the exception of sulphur dust, no chemical pesticides are used, but orange peel to prevent fungi and diseases.
