Mornington Peninsula

Grape-growing area (GI) on the peninsula of the same name on Port Phillip Bay at the southern tip of the Australian state of Victoria. It belongs to the Port Phillip zone, the main town is called Red Hill South. It is one of Australia's youngest and fastest growing wine growing areas. The area is a fascinating mix of beaches with water sports, green bushland and vineyards. The vineyards cover about 1,000 hectares. The main red wine varieties are Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon, the main white wine varieties are Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Sauvignon Blanc and Riesling. Due to the nearby sea, there is a cool, windy climate with a long growing season and late grape harvest. There are about 40 wineries. Well-known producers are Dromana Estate, Elgee Park, King's Creek, Massoni, Merricks Estate, Moorooduc Estate, Paringa Estate, Stonier's (Petaluma), Tuck's Ridge and Willow Creek.
