Founded in 1991, the "Hacienda Monasterio" winery is located near Pesquera de Duero (Valbuena) in the DO area of Ribera del Duero in the Spanish region of Castile-León. The cellar master is the well-known winemaker Peter Sisseck, who later caused a furore with his own Dominio de Pingus winery. The Dane is considered a winegrowing pioneer for the area. The vineyards cover 70 hectares of vines. The vineyards are planted with very low wire frame systems in order to make optimum use of the heat stored in the soil during the day at night. Yields are extremely low at a maximum of one kilogramme per vine. The wines are blended with a high proportion of Tinta del Pais (Tempranillo) of 70 to 80%, as well as small quantities of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Malbec (Cot). Around 230,000 bottles of wine are produced each year, 60% of which are exported worldwide.
