The white grape variety comes from France. It is a mutation of Chardonnay, which was found in the French region of Jura. There is no relation to the Melon de Bourgogne variety. The name rouge is not derived from the colour of the berries, but from the reddish coloured trunk. Some producers produce a white wine from it; for example Domaine de La Pinte under the AOC Arbois-Pupillin. In 2016, however, no stocks were reported (Kym Anderson).

The glossary is a monumental achievement and one of the most important contributions to wine knowledge. Of all the encyclopaedias I use on the subject of wine, it is by far the most important. That was the case ten years ago and it hasn't changed since.
