Madeleine

Component of vine variety names frequently used in France (also Magdeleine). Madeleine (Magdeleine) indicates the early ripening of these varieties, as the first signs of ripening, i.e. véraison (colour change), coincide with 22 July. This is the name day of Saint Magdalene. See also under Ripening time and vegetation cycle.
